Wool Sales Catalogue 27
published 17 Apr 2025

After a week’s recess in wool sales, the 27th sale of the 2024/25 season took place this week.

A total of 8 565 bales were on offer, after 607 bales were withdrawn prior to the sale. Although 69% of the offering tested 20 micron and finer, the bulk of the offering consisted of medium length wools. Producer lots made up just under 40% of the offering, resulting in a low volume of 45,6% (of merino wools) of sustainably certified wools.

The ZAR traded variably across the two-day sale, but ultimately averaged 1,6% weaker against the US$.

Considering the current uncertain global trading environment, the market delivered very good results today, especially for the sustainably certified wools, with an overall sales clearance of 92,3%

The all-merino indicator rose by 2,6% to close on R189,65 p/kg, whilst the certified indicator increased by 3% to close on R194,92 p/kg.

A highest price of R289,38 p/kg was paid for a single bale lot of 15,4 micron merino fleece wool.

The Australian market retracted considerably this week and closed down 2,3% (AU$) from the previous sale held on Wednesday, 9 April.

The major buyers on this week's sale were G Modiano SA (1 846), Standard Wool SA (1 559), BKB Pinnacle Fibres (1 488) and Tianyu SA (1 166).

The next sale will take place on 30 April 2025 where approximately 9 361 bales will be on offer.
